Evolutionary systematics and biogeography of gerbils from Morocco
|
We apply the principles of integrative taxonomy combining molecular sequencing, chromosomal analyses and morphometrical treatments for the study of the geographical distribution of the endemic group of rodent species of the genus Gerbillus from Morocco. A species that could well be new to science was evidenced, for which chromosomal data are still lacking. The cases exposed represent good arguments in favour of an active role of chromosomal change in speciation processes. This study is exposed below in detail as a journal article and in summary as a slideshow. The figure presents a synthetic phylogeny of the group studied. Also included are an example picture and the gerbillus page in "mammals species of the world".
